Dream Bakers @ SuperStar M!

  • 알 수 없는 사용자
Our team was nominated for 'SuperStar M, Open IR' hosted by MK and MBN, which is a very well-known business newspaper and their cable channel in Korea. We had a very busy week to get prepared for this event, and we KNEW this would be a great chance to promote PlaceTab to the people at the conference!

For this special event, I planned to design a T-shirt for all members. It was also something our team really wanted to do for a very long time!

The POI icon pattern with our main character Tabi is placed on the front of the T-shirt. As you noticed, it is just like the design on the default screen from PlaceTab. You also can see our service logo in the back, "play x step, placetab", which we made more playful!

We couldn’t wait until we show off our shirts at SuperStar M. :)

(As I expected, we got a lot of compliments on the shirt design from people. We also plan to make PlaceTab shirts in orange with white patterns!)

Look familiar?

Orange T-shirts coming soon!

We also created one-day event for SuperStar M. If you completed 4 basic quests on PlaceTab at the Plaza Hotel, you could earn SuperStar M badge! In addition, we’ll send mug cups to those who earned SuperStar M badge that day!

Although you didn’t get a chance to earn this special badge and the cup, don’t get too sad yet. Keep your eyes on PlaceTab and play, because we’ll come up with more fun events for sure! :)

SuperStar M badge!

We displayed iPads and iPhones at the booth to demonstrate PlaceTab to the conference participants.

A lof of people were interested in PlaceTab, and they wanted to download to play it. Our members were very pleased to answer any questions from them. There was a huge banner right next to our booth which briefly explains the main concept of our service!

Some of the dream bakers were busy with baking Waffles.

Especially Min, our intern in design unit, was a big help with Waffles.
(Unfortunately, we didn’t get to take a lot of pictures of her. Her waffles were very tasty!)

Just let you know, our waffles are always homemade!

The busiest person during the event was Jay without a doubt... He had a big presentation and QnA session at the conference room. He also demonstrated PlaceTab and answered a lot of questions to people before and after the event.

All the participating teams at SuperStar M had a chance to show their products to a very special guest, Saul Singer. Saul Singer is the columnist at the Jerusalem Post and a co-author of Start-Up Nation. His books were sold throughout the event. Jay had a short presentation of PlaceTab to him!

By the time SuperStar M was over, we were completely exhausted! However, we learned a lot while explaining our service, answering questions, and listening thoughts and opinions of the actual users. It was amazing to see how people reacted to PlaceTab face to face.

We did our very best to show sincerity to our users, and that was all we needed to do at SuperStar M!

Dream bakers, you rock! :)

We just got new ID badges! :)

  • 알 수 없는 사용자
Our members do their very best to create a fun atmosphere at work to boost our creativity. After we decided to move to Seoul, we planned to do something memorable. I think one of them was designing Waplestore ID badges!

I researched ID badges from various companies, and most of them looked like plain photo IDs. I thought we should come up with something much more interesting!

I wanted to reflect the concept of our service " PlaceTab" in the front view. Instead of taking photos of 'awkward' smiling faces, we decided to create badges of faces for all the members! As you know, we have badges at PlaceTab, which are unlocked by the users as they complete quests.

How many badges have you earned so far? :)

I did my very best to illustrate the characteristic of each member, and I hope it worked! Can you imagine how they would look only by these illustrations?

I personally think Kay's badge came out the best! We all laughed...

You can see a silhouette of a city in the lower bottom of the card in which Tabi's flag is hidden.

What about the names? All the members already have names in Enlgish at Waplestore. We also added fun nicknames that went well with the characteristic of each member. We came up with humorous and creative ones.

Do you see Tabi's flag?
As you see, my nickname is Supa Cooool Illustrator. (Are you sure...?)

On the other hand, the design on the back is the same. As you noticed, the color red represents Waplestore's corporate identity. We wanted to include and remember a very important message from the founders! This will remind us of Three values of Waplestore, which are sincerity, openness, and pride.

Are you planning on a visit to Waplestore? We have ID badges for the visitors with Tabi and Poi's faces, and you are welcome to use them at anytime! :)

We never miss a chance to include our identity in everything we do, and company's ID badge couldn't be an exception! We love the word, 'customized'.

As an illustrator, I felt very pleased when members got happy with new ID badges. Every member at Waplestore will get one-of-a-kind badge from now on!

Introducing our new Dream Bakery!

  • 알 수 없는 사용자
As it is mentioned in the previous post, we moved to Seoul last weekend.

We didn't want to ruin the bright atmosphere of the space. It is so bright that we don't need desk lamps anymore. So we ended up doing just a few interior works! :)

Now, I'd like to share some pictures of our new Dream Bakery interior.
First, we decided to add a glass wall to create a conference room. All the members liked how simple it was!

On the left side of the conference room, there is a little kitchen.

This is the inside view of the conference room. Now we have a white board to write on.

We also created an image wall right in front of the entrance door.

If you are wondering what the orange wall is for... I'll show you more about it later on in this post. :)

We also needed something to entertain us. Here are some photos of the mini racing cars and the track which were kindly donated by Jay. We enjoy racing during our break time. It's a lot fun!

The following pictures show how the Dream Bakery looks now.

Our visitors often get amazed by the way our office looks as they walk in, but we didn't do anything crazy. It is just very bright during the daytime, and we threw in some colorful pillows and a couch. You need just a little bit of creativity to set a bright tone in the space!

We also have TV, but our members barely turn it on. We are working so hard...

Now we had desks, chairs, and a projector!

I'm sure that our members are workaholics... -_-;

If you are still wondering what we were doing with the orange wall, here is the answer!

I was working on a drawing of a city view, which will also appear on the orange wall.
As you noticed, the color orange represents PlaceTab! :)

It was my first illustration on the wall, and it wasn't easy at first...

Here are some close-up shots of the drawing.
It looks just like the pen and ink drawing I worked on earlier.

If you walk into our office, this will be the first thing you'll see!

We had so may different ideas for this wall in the beginning, such as making our CI with Acrylic or wood.
Finally, we all agreed that it would be much nicer if we draw an image that reflects the concept of our service!

This illustration can be changed at anytime, and it doesn't cost much.
We also thought this wall painting would create a cozy mood like our company name, "Waplestore".

I hope you also enjoy it!

Probably our last mission! (crossing fingers...)
We had to assemble 3 sets of DIY locker, and again, it was a lot of work! T^T

Jay and Kay putting the parts together...

Ta-da! We're done!

This is the way our little kitchen looks now. We also bake waffles here!

All of our team members had done a lot of works for our new office. None of this would have been possible without their help!

Great job, Waplestore dream bakers! :)

A moving day on a rainy weekend!

  • 알 수 없는 사용자
We moved to Seoul from Bundang on the second day of April.
As it is mentioned in the title of this post, it rained! (You might think "What a horrible day to move in!")

However, all members helped each other SO well that we could finish unpacking the boxes, assembling the desks, and cleaning up the new office on that very day. (from 7 am to 11 pm...? not bad!)

We'd like to share some photos taken on our moving day. This post might give you some tips if you are planing on a very "low budget" do-it-yourself moving project!

This is the last shot of our old office in Bun-dang, which we miss a lot...
It was very weird to see the room getting emptied out!!

First of all, we started packing our stuff the day before the moving day. We got the boxes from a nearest supermarket. We wrapped the chairs one by one with air caps so that they don't get scratches while in transit.

We hired only 'one person' to help us on our moving day because we didn't want to spend too much money on this. More importantly, we thought it would be very meaningful for our team if the members help out each other on our first moving day!

Of course it was not easy at all, but we were encouraging each other and working hard! :)

Waplestore women are strong enough to help! No exceptions! :)
We laid down the table tops on the floor before putting the parts together.

It took us few hours to load and unload our stuff to our new office. After moving our furniture and boxes into the office, we started assembling our new desks.

Desk tops were 'slightly' heavier than we thought!

Okay! Now we're putting the desk parts together. Assembling 9 desks at a time can never be easy...
These photos really show how teamwork works!

We are almost there...

We also had to take a break...

Finally, the desks are all set!

All the members are helping each other to rearrange the tables in the office.
It was quite exciting to see the new office getting organized little by little...

If you are wondering what this is about... There's a ritual called 'Gosa' in Korea in which food is offered to the spirits in order to avoid misfortune and bring good luck. People usually put a head of a pig in the middle of the table! We had a little piggy bank and 'Bossam'(boiled pork dish) which we got as a gift that day.

We also had a little bit of alcohol...

After this ritual, all of our team members shared 'Bossam' for dinner.

After dinner, we opened the gift box from one of our friends, and there was a beautiful flower figurine.
We thought it was a perfect gift for us because we are growing step by step just like the flower.

By the time we called it a day, we were extremely tired.
However, all the members were smiling because we were SO ready to bake dreams from next week! :)

The first anniversary of the team Waplestore!

  • jay cho
Today is the one-year anniversary of the team Waplestore.

It's very busy these days, however, we had time to celebrate ourselves with gratitude for all our clients, opportunities, and the fact that we can be together now.

Please be with the future of Waplestore, which is growing day by day. Thanks! :)

We really want to drink a glass of wine,
but we drunk Welch's Grape instead because we had lots of things to do. T^T

Special gifts from Woogoon. :)

  • jay cho
Some special gifts from @drl83, one of our twitter friends, are arrived at our office today!

I felt a lump in my throat when I open the envelop, because there were a well-thumbed book about leadership, a handwritten letter, and even the gifts for NeNe & MoMo!

Frankly, I've been depressed for weeks because of attracting investments, but now, I start believing I can overcome all the problems with our team and our Woogoons.

Thank you, 드림작가.
I promise you, to be a good entrepreneur with your warm presents. :)

This is a book for me.
I'm going to read this first and share this book with our members later!

And, there were gifts for NeNe and MoMo!!

NeNe and MoMo fall in love with the toy mice. ^^;

ps.
A word, Woogoon, is from Korean word '우군 [woo:goon], 友軍' that means 'an allied army'.
We use this word to call all of our friends, clients, users, and anyone who has a good feeling toward our team. :)

Waplestore @ Econovation Open Conference

  • 알 수 없는 사용자
As mobile application market is being spotlighted in Korea, the largest telecom firm, KT(Korea Telecom), built an open ecosystem titled " Econovation Center" to support and promote mobile content developers.

Jay had invited to be one of the guest speakers at their first open conference, so Jay and I participated in the conference on Monday.

The conference held in KT Olleh Square at weekday afternoon, but almost two hundreds of audiences attended!

There were three key subjects of the conference, which were 'How to get a good idea', 'How to develop it as a storyboard' and 'How to balance planning and development'. Each subject was very helpful to developers, because they are usually not familiar with "the planning".

I couldn't take a picture of Jay, because of I was seated on the outermost side of the hall.
Fortunately, one of the audiences,
장닭 , took Jay's picture and allows to use it here.
I really appreciate it! ^^

Jay, as the second speaker and a representative of Waplestore Inc., introduced various methodologies for writing storyboards and shared our project experiences with audiences, and we met a lot of passionate developers and talked with them about the technology and the industry at the after party.

Here you can see what Jay shared at the conference. ^^

I become nervous whenever I have to share my experience and knowledge with others, but I think it also make me feel happy. I really appreciate the chances which makes me to be passionate in my field again! :)

(+) Jay told me he was a little bit nervous on the stage, because he have gained a little weight recently and his suit was too fit for him, however, I felt really great about good audience response after his lecture! :p
